Plastic bottles are one of the main causes of pollution in the world. Plastic bottles are made out of a substance called PETE or Polyethylene terephthalate which is a product made from crude oil and it has been linked to causeing cancer and other problems such as birth defects. PETE is not only used for water bottles but sports drinks as well. How would you feel if you knew that the sports drinks we give our athletes could actually be causing them to have problems due to the chemical leaking out of the bottle because it is not a safe plastic compound to use for drinking out of. Studies conducted by recognized scientists have shown that PETE is in the Benzene group and Benzene is used to make gasoline and cigarettes. So next time you go out and want a drink stick to a water fountain or bring your own water bottle made from home that is made from plastic safe to drink out of such as HDPE which is high density polyethylene, this is a safe plastic to drink out of because it does not leak chemicals into the water. A very shocking fact is that PET or PETE is used for a lot of food containers, so ask yourself why would the people who make the plastic containers we stick our food or drinks in use a dangerous plastic? The answer to that is that PETE is cheaper to make then the safe plastics and as long as the company's are getting away with the products and still making money they do not care about the consumer. Each year billions of plastic bottles wash up on the shores of beaches and and the chemicals leak out of the bottles into the water and can poison the fish in the sea, so if this continues the people of the earth can be looking at having a toxic sea and losing a very large source of food provided by the sea. If you want to help save the earth use a reusable water bottle small acts like these will set the human race on to a good track rather then letting the world drown in toxins and let younger generations deal with it. We as humans only really have two choices now save the earth or die off. so what i am trying to say in this blog is that we should be more aware of what we are using because the products can potentially harmful to us, and that we are effectively renting a place on the earth until we die so we should treat it with respect as if you were at a fancy hotel. Each generation should be a caretaker not a destroyer of the earth.
